Liquor & Smoking Laws

Minimum drinking age is 21.

 

Alcoholic beverages may be sold in licensed bars and restaurants from 6 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. Sunday to 2:30 a.m. Monday. Stores selling alcoholic beverages may sell liquor from 7 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

 

Smoking is not allowed inside any public buildings, including restaurants, bingo halls, and the Bluegrass Airport, nor is it allowed in public transportation vehicles including busses and taxicabs. You may still smoke in designated hotel rooms, retail tobacco stores, private dwellings, and organizations with private memberships.

Downtown Lexington


Lexington (officially Lexington-Fayette Urban County) is the second-largest city in Kentucky and the 66th largest in the United States. Known as the "Horse Capital of the World," it is located in the heart of Kentucky's Bluegrass region. The population was estimated at 270,789 in 2006, anchoring a metropolitan area of 436,684 people and a combined statistical area of 645,006 people.

Lexington ranks 10th among US cities in college education rate, with 39.5% of residents having at least a Bachelor's Degree. It is home to the headquarters of Lexmark International, the Kentucky Horse Park, Keeneland race course, Red Mile race course, Transylvania University, and the University of Kentucky.

In 2007, The Advocate magazine voted Lexington one of the ”10 Best Places for Gays and Lesbians to Live.“ Lexington also has several openly gay and gay-friendly officials including the Vice Mayor, a State Senator, a District Judge, and newly elected counil members.

Lexington has been selected to be the site of the 2010 FEI World Equestrian Games.
